Grind size is one of the quickest ways to improve the coffee you make at home. The aim is simple: match the grind to the brewer so water moves through the coffee at the right pace.
Espresso: fine
Espresso needs a fine grind because water passes through quickly under pressure. If the shot runs too fast and tastes sour or weak, go a touch finer. If it runs too slowly and tastes dry or bitter, go a touch coarser.
Filter: medium
For pour-over and drip filter, use a medium grind—similar to sand. This allows a steady, even brew without rushing or stalling the water. A clean, balanced blend such as Moxy is available with filter or plunger grind options.
Plunger: coarse
Plunger brewing needs a coarser grind so the coffee does not turn muddy or overly bitter while it steeps. Pour slowly, let it brew for around four minutes, then press gently.
Whole beans give you the most control, but selecting the correct pre-ground option is an excellent place to start. See all South Coast Coffee Co coffees.
